Sacroiliac Joint Arthrogram

The sacroiliac joint is the joint between the sacrum and the iliac bone. This joint is responsible for low back pain in about 15% of patients who have low back pain. After contrast dye is placed into the joint under X-ray guidance, a small amount of numbing medicine and steroid is injected. Near complete relief of the patient’s pain may then indicate that this joint is the source of the low back pain.
